I think of FAMILY and FRIENDS, LIGHTS everywhere, PACKAGES arriving at your door and under a Christmas tree. Its excitement everywhere!! However there is also that added STRESS of meeting deadlines, parties and late night events and just the rush it seems to just getting it all done.
That is okay! Its the season but caution yourself on the side of perfectionism.
THREE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO SPOT in yourself to help you RELAX:
1. Deep Breathing exercises called Diaphragmatic Breathing (abdominal breathing or belly breathing) encourages full oxygen exchange, which is the trade of incoming oxygen for outgoing carbon dioxide. To encourage this, the diaphragm contracts, which is the muscle lcated horizontally between the thoracic cavity and abdominal cavity.contracts Deep breathing is one of the best ways to lower stress in the body. Because when you you breathe deeply, it sends a message to our brains to calm down and relax. The brain then sends this message to our body. Those things that happen when you are stressed, such as increased heart rate, fast breathing, and high blood pressure, all decrease as you breathe deeply to relax.
2. Relax to music. Music can have a profound effect on both the emotions and the body. Faster music can make you feel more alert and concentrate better. A slower tempo can quiet your mind and relax your muscles, making you feel soothed while releasing the stress of the day.
3. Mindfulness meditation is a type of mediation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you’re sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgement. Practicing mindfulness involves of breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind.
