What is self compassion?
Self-compassion is extending compassion to one’s self in instances of perceived inadequacy, failure, or general suffering.Kristin Neff has defined self-compassion as being composed of three main elements – self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness.
What’re some examples?
“Im going to be kind to myself” rather than “Im a patient and understanding mom to my kids”; or “I’m going to treat myself the way I would treat my very best friend ” instead of “My body is amazing just the way it is and I accept myself this way.”
How do you Begin to Apply self-compassion to yourself and others?
Best place to start is with self kindness instead of self judgment, mindfulness over identification, having respect and attunement toward oneself and others, being able to know yourself and set boundaries for yourseld and others.
Why is self compassion important?
Self-compassion yields a number of benefits, including lower levels of anxiety and depression. Self-compassionate people recognize when they are suffering and are kind to themselves at these times,which reduces their anxiety and related depression.
How does Classical Pilates help with self-compassion?
Pilates is more than a workout. If you have been doing Pilates for awhile you know it can already sculpt your body and clear your mind and give you energy and inner serenity. Its this last part about Pilates that helps in clearing the mind, giving energy and supplying our inner serenity that i would like to emphasize in this segment on self-compassion.

The very act of centering your thoughts or focus on one healthy aspect of oneself creates a sense of wellbeing for us. This process of mindful movement that helps in releasing muscle tensions, which in turn relives our emotional and physical stresses creates a better platform for encouraging self compassion to self then onto to others.
